We are a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston Massachusetts which was founded in 1879 and was established "to commemorate the word and works of our Master [Christ Jesus]" and to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." Although we're called a Society, that doesn't mean you have to join in order to visit our church! All our services and facilities are open to everyone.

Our Sunday church service is at 10.30 am. Unusually, the pastor of the Christian Science church is not a person but two books - the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and the sermon is the Bible Lesson that you can read yourself during the week, which is a series of passages from the Bible and Science and Health centred around a particular topic. The service also includes hymns, prayer and a solo song.

Also at 10.30 we run a Sunday School for children and young people up to age 20 where they learn how to get to know God, themselves and others better through Bibles stories, the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer. Older pupils are encouraged to question and discuss how they can use what they're learning to deal with problems and help others do the same.

We have a weekly Testimony Meeting on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 1pm which includes readings from the Bible and Science and Health, hymns, prayer and a time when those who wish to, can share testimonies of healing, experiences and remarks on Christian Science. Also at 1pm on all other Wednesdays, you'll be able to hear a CD discussion from Christian Science RadioSentinel.

If you want to use the church for prayer during the week, it is open the same hours as our Reading Room (Monday - Saturday, 10.30 - 4.30). There's a walled garden at the back (with access from near the bus stop in Church Road) where you can sit and think, read, or have your lunch. The Reading Room also has a comfortable study room where you can read and pray and if you want to discuss anything or ask questions the librarian's  always happy to help. You can also ask questions by post, phone or email - details are below.

Thanks for visiting!
